Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical day at the school?

The classroom school days are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and they run from 9am - 3pm.  Students are dropped off by parents at the designated drop off point with their backpacks and lunches between 8:45am - 9:00am and go directly to their classrooms.

By 9:15 students in grades 3 and up go to their math class based on their skill level.  After 10:00, it's back to their classroom for group learning on various subjects.  There is an hour break for lunch and recess, then back to the classroom for the remainder of the school day (younger grades typically have 2 recess times).  Classrooms with combined grades have break out sessions at varying times of the day to accommodate more detailed learning with the different skill levels.

What is a typical homeschool day?

Armed with the lesson plans for the week provided by the teachers, you as the parent are free to implement your homeschool schedule as you see fit.  For example, you can do Monday's lesson plan with your child on the Saturday before the school week so that you can spend Monday at a non-crowded Florida attraction.  Or, you can do part of Wednesday's lesson plan on Tuesday after school if desired.  Really, the sky is the limit on how you schedule your homeschool days.  Lesson plans are usually provided 2 weeks in advance so you can plan accordingly.

What grades do you serve and are you planning to add more grades?

Our first year saw us starting with only grades 1-4.  By our second year we offered grades Pre-K through 6th.  For the 2008/2009 school year we serve Pre-K through 8th grade.  In this current 2009/2010 year and economy we have been pleased to offer a class for the lower elementary grades and a class for the upper elementary grades, as well as "A La Carte" classes for middle school students.  We will add grades and classes as the need arises and as God leads.

How much does curriculum cost?

A list of required curriculum is provided to each family by BCCS.  Much of the curriculum can be purchased used.  Approximate cost of NEW curriculum is between $200 - $250 per grade.  However, most families can pay significantly LESS for curriculum by purchasing some used and/or swapping with other families.  Also, some curriculum can be used for multiple children and/or multiple years.
